Dermal Fillers

Over time, our skin loses collagen and elasticity, leading to lines, wrinkles, and loss of volume. If you are looking to restore a youthful appearance without surgery, dermal fillers are a great option for you! At our office, we offer an array of dermal fillers to help meet your individual aesthetic goals for a boost in confidence!

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to add volume, fill in lines and wrinkles, and improve the contours of the face. They are most commonly used to treat the face, neck, and hands for a more refreshed, rejuvenated look.

There are a number of different types of FDA-approved dermal fillers on the market today, which can be made up of different formulations to add plumpness under the skin. These include:

  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally occurs in the body, and helps to skin to stay hydrated. These fillers are soft and gel-like and are injected underneath the skin. Results usually last 6-12 months before a touch-up is needed.
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers: Like hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite is also a naturally occurring substance. When it is used in a filler, small particles are suspended in a smooth gel, which actually stimulates natural collagen production. Results usually last about 12 months.
  • Poly-L-lactic Acid Fillers: Poly-L-lactic acid is a synthetic substance that is safe to use in the body. These fillers stimulate collagen in the body to help improve your natural appearance. A few days following treatment, the filler gel itself will dissolve, leaving you with a more youthful appearance. Results can last more than two years.
  • Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Fillers: Polymethylmethacrylate is a synthetic substance that is safe to use in the body. When used in dermal fillers, it takes the form of a tiny ball the remains under the skin to provide support. The main goal is to provide structure and firmness under the skin.

Dermal Filler Treatment

Prior to your dermal filler treatment, a consultation will be needed to determine which type of filler is right for you. During this meeting, you will be able to discuss your aesthetic goals with our injector as well as ask any questions that you may have regarding treatment.

During treatment, the targeted area will be cleaned, and a topical anesthetic applied to ensure your comfort during the injection process. A small syringe will be used to inject a precise amount of filler beneath the skin.

Depending on the filler used and the areas treated, most patients can see results immediately after receiving fillers. Some mild bruising and swelling may occur but will subside over the next few days. There is also no downtime required following filler treatment, so you can feel free to resume most of your everyday activities. You may be asked to refrain from strenuous activity or exercise for the remainder of the day.
